Navigating Local Policy to Advance Community Change
10:00am
Duration:
3 hours
Description
State laws and policies can sometimes be hard to find and understand. If you are new to public health or coalition work, this training will support you to learn how to find policy information in the Massachusetts State House, how to engage local policymakers and explore ways policy can be used to support community work. We will do this by focusing on relevant policy areas identified by how the Massachusetts Public Health Alliance’s bills fare in the legislature this session and using the FY27 State Budget proposal (released in January) to identify line items to mobilize around for protection. We will review these urgent policy areas, highlighting how coalitions can find state policies and determine where they fit into the policy change process. Through group work and skill-building activities, participants will leave this training with knowledge to increase their effectiveness and impact within the community and feel confident in bringing their voice into the local policy space.
