Company One Theatre will share an upcoming youth-serving residency opportunity designed to engage and support young people. We’re excited to explore opportunities to collaborate with CDC Program Managers and invite you to learn more about how your programs and communities could be involved.
Developed by Company One Theatre in partnership with the Mel King Institute for Community Building, our organizations have designed a residency for young people to be introduced to the work of Mel King and his legacy through the lens of performing arts. The first five lessons of the residency curriculum are named after Company One’s change makers framework: Building Community, Empathy, Critical Consciousness, Agency, and Social Justice. The sixth and final week is entitled Chain of Change, an homage to Mel King’s 1981 monograph, detailing a critical history of Black political consciousness and community development in Boston’s South End from the 1950s-70s. This collaboration between C1 and MKI embodies each organization’s mission of challenging inequity through political solidarity work and advocating for young peoples' authentic voices and experiences.
