Description

To advance racial, social and economic justice, we must effectively build collective power and deepen local leadership.  Community organizing is a crucial tool for this work!  
In this session, you will learn about the key skills and knowledge areas vital to effective organizing.  Together, we will assess our skills and knowledge and begin to identify resources for professional development. Participants will engage through peer-learning and hands-on interaction with a suite of tools developed by the Mel King Institute for Community Building, NeighborWorks America, Rising Sun Consulting and Boston-area organizers:
1.    Core Competency Chart, which describes seven key skill and knowledge areas vital for strong organizing
2.    Tracking Tool, through which organizers can evaluate their skill/knowledge levels in the core competency areas; and
3.      Training and Resource Catalogue, through which we can identify courses, conferences, online tools and other professional development resources from around the US.
