Northeastern University is partnering with the Commonwealth Workforce Coalition (CWC) to offer a Workforce Development program in response to a demonstrated need in Massachusetts for graduate-level education in this growing field. The next program will start in January 2010. CWC focuses on building the professional capacity of the workforce development field in order to improve employment outcomes for low-income residents of the Commonwealth. It offers a range of professional development and training programs for more than 500 workforce development practitioners each year.
The program will consist of six three-credit courses for a total of 18 quarter hours. The program may be completed in one to two years and courses will be taught by Northeastern faculty and CWC senior trainers.
Courses include:
• Employer Relations – Improving Employer Outcomes
• Strategic Planning, Program Design, and Implementation
• Working with Participants – Improving Participant Outcomes
• Understanding Labor Markets
• Research and Evaluation
• Workforce Development Policy
Credits earned for the completed graduate certificate may also be applied to the Master of Education (MEd) program (specialization in Adult & Organizational Learning or Higher Education Administration), the Master of Science in Nonprofit Management and the Master of Science in Leadership offered by the College of Professional Studies.
