This interactive session is especially designed for staff who have attended CWC’s introductory training on the workforce development system.

This training will focus on ideas, information, and resources at the program level, including:

• key challenges and opportunities for different types of workforce development programs;
• three types of jobs programs, their services, and resource levels;
• operational components of programs, including core services, administrative requirements, and subcontracting out services;
• what it means to be job ready – and how that applies to your work;
• resources and strategies to improve new and existing programs

The staff of career centers and education and training programs are experiencing high and prolonged stress levels due to increased workloads, decreased resources and desperation on the part of many clients, students and customers, especially the long-term unemployed. This one day training will help participants gain skills to more effectively address the physical, mental and emotional stress associated with this “new normal”.

What you will gain by attending this training:

• An understanding of the physiology of stress and why our usual efforts to combat it don’t work
• Proactive self-care practices that counter stress and “compassion fatigue”
• Concrete strategies that will enable you to set appropriate boundaries with clients/students/customers and effective approaches for managing their expectations
• An opportunity to connect with your colleagues and share perspectives about working in this challenging and stress-inducing environment

This session will be led by Laurie Rhoades, LCW. Laurie is a former Senior Clinical Consultant with New Perspectives at the Executive Office of Labor and Workforce Development. She now maintains a private practice with offices in Arlington and Amherst where she sees individuals and couples, and facilitates mindfulness-oriented therapy groups. She has presented over four hundred workshops in Greater Boston on such topics as Stress Reduction and Relaxation, Ethics and Boundaries, Building Successful Work Relationships and Assertive Communication Skills.

The Commonwealth Workforce Coalition is offering an Offender Employment Specialist Training (OEST) and Certification this fall in partnership with Bunker Hill Community  College, MA Executive Office of Labor and Workforce Development, New England Center for Homeless Veterans, and the Middlesex and Hampden County Sherriff’s Departments.  The first three-day intensive training will be offered in Boston on Sept. 16, 23, and 30 at Bunker Hill Community College.  The cost for the three day training is $180.

Training materials and directions to the training location will be provided to you before the training.

Registration is online at our Member’s Portal.  Payment is by credit card or check. Registration ends on September 9^th.

Please note that you are not considered registered until we have received payment. Due to high demand, all checks must be received by Sept. 9, 2011 to secure a seat. All registrants are receiving email confirmations of training registration, so if you have completed payment you will receive an email stating that you are fully confirmed for the training.

How much do you know about the field in which you work?  The Commonwealth Workforce Coalition (CWC) invites you to “Introduction to Workforce Development”. If you are new to workforce development, this introductory workshop may be for you! Learn about funding flow, organizations and programs that make up the workforce development system in MA, ARRA resources, and standards for workforce development staff.

Join Susan Egmont of Egmont Associates and ESC of New England for a two-hour workshop specifically created to provide you with the tools, information and feedback you need to make the most of your nonprofit job search.

This two-hour workshop is designed to help those who are searching for a job in the nonprofit sector—you may be entering the field after college, changing positions within the sector, returning after some time out of the workforce, or transitioning from the for-profit sector. Participants will receive an overview of the nonprofit sector in Massachusetts, develop an “elevator speech” to use in marketing their candidacy, discuss effective job search strategies, enhance their cover letters and resumes, and share questions and answers about finding a position in the nonprofit sector. Participants should bring a sample of a recent cover letter and their resume.

The cost for this session is $50. There is limited seating for this workshop.
