This interactive session is especially designed for staff in their first year or two of working in education, training, and employment programs. There will be some fun and there will be some chocolate!
You can expect to learn more about:
  • Recent history of federal and state legislation and how these laws affect your work;
  • How federal and state funds flow and who sets public policy;
  • The organizations and programs that make up the workforce development system in Massachusetts;
  • Principles and standards for workforce development staff;
  • Information and tools that will make your work easier and more effective.
There is no charge but pre-registration is required.

If you are new to workforce development, this introductory workshop may be for you!
Attend this training to get an overview of the workforce development industry. This interactive session is especially designed for staff in their first year or two of working in education, training, and employment programs.

Cori Information Day

The JVS Projects with Industry Advisory Council in collaboration with the Commonwealth Workforce Coalition will be holding a CORI Information Day for employers and service providers on Wednesday, October 28th from 8:30am – 1:00pm at the JFK Federal Building in Boston.

Discussion Questions include:

·        What is the difference between CORI and Background checks?
·        How can I read and interpret a CORI?
·        What sort of background checking do some local businesses use?
·        What is the latest info on proposed changes to CORI law and how will it affect my business or my clients?

Graduate Certificate in Workforce Development at Northeastern University

Northeastern University is partnering with the Commonwealth Workforce Coalition (CWC) to offer a Workforce Development program in response to a demonstrated need in Massachusetts for graduate-level education in this growing field. The next program will start in January 2010. CWC focuses on building the professional capacity of the workforce development field in order to improve employment outcomes for low-income residents of the Commonwealth. It offers a range of professional development and training programs for more than 500 workforce development practitioners each year.

The program will consist of six three-credit courses for a total of 18 quarter hours. The program may be completed in one to two years and courses will be taught by Northeastern faculty and CWC senior trainers.

Courses include:
• Employer Relations – Improving Employer Outcomes
• Strategic Planning, Program Design, and Implementation
• Working with Participants – Improving Participant Outcomes
• Understanding Labor Markets
• Research and Evaluation
• Workforce Development Policy
Credits earned for the completed graduate certificate may also be applied to the Master of Education (MEd) program (specialization in Adult & Organizational Learning or Higher Education Administration), the Master of Science in Nonprofit Management and the Master of Science in Leadership offered by the College of Professional Studies.
Courses include:

Commonwealth Workforce Coalition: Introduction to Workforce Development

If you are new to workforce development, this introductory workshop may be for you! Learn about funding flow, organizations and programs that make up the workforce development system in MA and standards for workforce development staff.

The workshop will be held from 9:30 -12:30 on Wednesday, October 14th in Boston.  The workshop is free, but registration is required by Friday, October 9th. Registration confirmation and directions will be e-mailed to registrants one week before the workshop.
