			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>Youth Work Central is an on-line resource tool of Health Resources in Action’s BEST Initiative (which is housed in the Training and Capacity Building Department).</p>
<p>The BEST Initiative is northern New England’s only region-wide professional development and credentialing system for youth workers and their supervisors.  The BEST Initiative is widely recognized for its youth development approach, which recognizes and builds on young people&#8217;s assets and strengths.  Composed of a diverse staff, BEST has expertise in a variety of topics including but not limited to:</p>

<p>“<em>Developing Successful Organizing Strategies and Campaigns</em>” will build on the success of our previous workshop “<em>Basics of Community Organizing</em>,” by providing organizers and other Community Organization staff and leaders with practical tools that they need to carry out effective community organizing campaigns that will promote positive change in their neighborhoods.</p>
<p>The agenda will include:</p>

<li>Choosing Issues to      Organize Around
<ul>
<li>Understanding       the difference between problems and issues</li>
</ul>
</li>
</ul>
<ul>
<li>Engaging leaders and the larger community in the campaign planning process
<ul>
<li>Achieving       and maintaining buy-in from Community based organization leaders and staff</li>
</ul>
</li>
</ul>
<ul>
<li>Developing a Campaign
<ul>
<li>Understanding       elements of a campaign:  Assessing       Goals, Resources Needed, Allies/Opponents, Decision-makers, Tactics</li>
</ul>
</li>
</ul>
<ul>
<li>Role of the Organizer</li>
</ul>
<ul>
<li>Action Steps:  Developing a campaign within your organization</li>
</ul>
<p>The training will be hands-on and intensive, with a mix of brief presentations followed by discussion of each topic.  There will be several role plays and opportunities for participants to share their experiences with peers.  We will break into smaller groups for some of the topics.  Participants will take away from the session concrete ideas for how to develop more effective organizing initiatives in their own CDCs.</p>

The program represents a unique online learning opportunity for nonprofit and non-governmental organization managers to interact with colleagues from around the world.</p>
<p>The online session will involve identifying, recruiting, and developing <strong>leadership</strong>, organizing <strong>community</strong> around that leadership, and building <strong>power</strong> from the resources of that community.</p>

<p>For nearly 30 years, The Center for Leadership Innovation (TCLI) has been dedicated to serving communities through society’s most valuable asset: its leaders. Through their workshops, networks and funding opportunities, they are helping diverse leaders to reach their full potential and leverage their ability to bring about innovative change.</p>
<p>TCLI sponsored programs have touched 17,000 urban and rural leaders who are achieving community-driven social change. <strong>TCLI</strong><strong> is dedicated to building a movement of diverse leaders and organizations that understand and are grounded in the communities they serve.</strong> Over 64% of program graduates are people of color, and 77% are people of color or women.</p>
<p>TCLI creates an open, candid, and energized learning community where new insights and breakthrough approaches for social change can emerge.</p>
<p>The Center for Leadership Innovation provides exposure to best practices, peer coaching and intensive leadership development programs that inspire current leaders and prepare the next generation to implement ideas that will revitalize communities and reinvent organizations.</p>

<p>Summary: This will be the first of four quarterly gatherings to be held during phase 2 of the Innovation Forum. The session will follow up on one of the key recommendations to emerge from Phase One: that the Community Development Sector needs to be much more effective about telling our story in the context of today’s economic and social environment.  The session will be run in part by Action Media (www.actionmedia.org), a nationally known organization with deep expertise in values-based messaging and how to apply those tools to the housing and community development sector.  Action Media’s workshop will present research and tools on how to effectively communicate about our field and our work and give attendees an opportunity to begin applying those tools to their current work.</p>
