Appreciative Inquiry in Action: Cultivating Practices for Well-Being

The Massachusetts School of Professional Psychology

Date:  Friday, April 2, 2010
Time:  9:00am – 4:30 pm
Location: Mass School of Professional Psychology (221 Rivermoon Street, Boston, MA)
Registration Fee:  $175

Appreciative Inquiry (AI) is the study and exploration of what gives life to human systems when they function at their best. It is based on the assumption that individuals, teams, and institutions all move in the direction of the questions they ask and encourages questions about what we want more of in ourselves, in our relationships and in our communities. This exciting day-long experience is intended to bring together communities of care and cultivate shared practices for well-being.

Here are some of the skills that will be discussed during the conference:

  • Understand your own strengths and what you need to be your best.
  • Know how to “strengths spot” using Appreciative Inquiry.
  • Enhance your capacity “to flip” narratives from energetically negative to energetically positive topics.
  • Create appreciative questions that are relationally transformative.
  • Master the art of Appreciative Inquiry for large-scale whole system change.

October 9, 2009
9:30 amto11:30 am

Supportive housing has been shown to be a cost-effective way to provide both housing and support services to low and moderate income residents.  In recent years, a number of successful models have been developed that provide permanent housing to families, people with disabilities, and elders and that tailor a range of services based on individual needs.  Recent attention to the issue of homelessness as well as new state and federal policy initiatives have sparked renewed interest.

Speakers will provide an overview of the different types of supportive housing; key ingredients for successful development, management, and service coordination; and new legislative and funding initiatives at the state and federal levels.
