“Developing Successful Organizing Strategies and Campaigns” will build on the success of our previous workshop “Basics of Community Organizing,” by providing organizers and other Community Organization staff and leaders with practical tools that they need to carry out effective community organizing campaigns that will promote positive change in their neighborhoods.
The agenda will include:
- Choosing Issues to Organize Around
- Understanding the difference between problems and issues
- Engaging leaders and the larger community in the campaign planning process
- Achieving and maintaining buy-in from Community based organization leaders and staff
- Developing a Campaign
- Understanding elements of a campaign: Assessing Goals, Resources Needed, Allies/Opponents, Decision-makers, Tactics
- Role of the Organizer
- Action Steps: Developing a campaign within your organization
The training will be hands-on and intensive, with a mix of brief presentations followed by discussion of each topic. There will be several role plays and opportunities for participants to share their experiences with peers. We will break into smaller groups for some of the topics. Participants will take away from the session concrete ideas for how to develop more effective organizing initiatives in their own CDCs.
